Children’s Cancer Association Names Danielle York President and General Manager
PORTLAND, Ore.— June 18, 2018 — It’s our honor to announce Danielle York as the new President and General Manager at the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA). In this newly created role, York will partner with CCA’s Founder/CEO and Board of Directors to advance our mission of creating transformative moments of joy for kids and families facing cancer and other serious illness. York joins CCA at a time of significant organizational growth and will lead all business lines for our Portland-based non-profit.
“Danielle is an experienced leader with a for-profit background and non-profit values. She has a track record of driving successful execution and is someone who derives satisfaction from bringing out the talents of others,” said Regina Ellis, CCA Founder and Chief Joy Officer. “I am incredibly excited to welcome her to our CCA family.”
York brings to CCA more than twenty years of corporate philanthropy, stakeholder relationship management, marketing, operations, and business development experience supporting highly successful US and global brands. She has worked across industries, running large functions and budgets of Fortune 100 companies like Nike and Albertsons. As a market general manager for the world’s largest communication agency, Edelman, she had several multimillion-dollar P&L responsibilities and was COO for the US Western Region with revenues totaling in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
“It’s a privilege to join CCA at this pivotal moment in the organization. What Regina and the team have accomplished over the last twenty-three years in support of seriously ill children and their families is nothing short of completely inspiring. I am honored to help steward the organization through its next iteration – with continued focus on best-in-class programming, growth, and long-term sustainability,” said York.
Before joining Edelman, York was director of US community engagement for Nike where she created signature philanthropy programs, including the Nike School Innovation Fund, the N7 Fund, and the Nike Running in Oregon exhibit in partnership with the National Smithsonian Institute. She also led executive platform strategies and worked extensively with nonprofit organizations, supporting programs focused on access to sport, the arts, and education.
York was named one of Portland’s Forty Under 40 leaders in business in 2008 by the Portland Business Journal and has been an Orchid nominee, recognizing the region’s most influential women in business. She has served as a board member for the Children’s Relief Nursery, (E3) Employers for Education Excellence, and Portland Center Stage/Gerding Armory Theater.
Meg Byrtek, CCA’s current President and Chief Operating Officer, will retire on September 11 after seven years with the organization. During Byrtek’s tenure CCA program service delivery grew by more than 240% and included national program launches such as at Boston Children’s Hospital, the number one ranked children’s hospital in the nation.
