Children’s Cancer Association’s 2019 Heroes Honored at OMSI
Each year, Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) recognizes a dozen new Heroes – kids and teens who show extraordinary courage in their battles against serious illnesses. This event, the Celebration of Courage, holds a very special place in our hearts. Now in its 21st year, Celebration of Courage brings together our Heroes and their families in an intimate and festive atmosphere where our Heroes are honored for their remarkable achievements, endurance, and optimism.
Access to Joy Makes a Difference
Whether facing cancer or another serious illness, these 12 new Heroes exemplify the thousands of kids and teens we have the privilege to serve each year with Joy-based programming using music, friendship, and nature to elevate their moods and positively impact their well-being. While each of our Heroes is unique, they all agree that access to Joy makes a big impact on their treatment experiences.
Honoring the New Heroes
Hosted at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, each Hero received a specially engraved medal presented by Jack Pipkin, CCA’s Director of Partnerships. The ceremony was emceed by Drew Carney of KGW News and offered families the chance to celebrate their Heroes and connect over shared experiences while enjoying games, music, and dinner.
Each month in the coming year, one of our 12 Heroes will be featured with a special blog story and will be highlighted on CCA’s social media.
