Golf for Joy at 10: A Physically Distant, Swinging Success
Just over 10 years ago, Gay Davis decided to fuse his passion for golf with his desire to help deliver Joy to kids with cancer.
Fast forward 10 years: Gay’s Golf for Joy event has raised more than $2 million over the last ten years and more than $400,000 (and counting) this year alone, which will go directly towards delivering the healing power of music, friendship, and nature—free-of-charge—to young patients and their families.
Coming (Not Too Close) Together for JoyRx
COVID-19 made it even more important to raise these critical funds—and bit more challenging. Months were spent collaborating with the good folks at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club to host a successful distance-style event, in keeping with local and federal health and safety guidelines.
The evening program featured:
Golf lover, Seth Finnie, and his family — dad, David; mom, Ami; and sister, Sara — sharing their gratitude and story about Seth’s journey with acute lymphocytic leukemia and their rejuvenating stay at Children’s Cancer Association’s Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin.
World Hall of Fame golfer, Johnny Miller hosting a clinic for golfers, and told wonderful stories about fellow Hall of Fame golfers and the highs and lows of golf courses and tournaments over the years.
Emcee Jeff Sanders, sharing insights on Pumpkin Ridge and his friendship with Gay and then rallying his fellow golfers to support Gay’s marathon with by-the-hole donations.
This event was made possible through generous sponsors, including Hoffman Construction, Western Pacific Building Materials, and Platt Electric.
Thank you to all golfers and congrats to the winners
