JoyRx Launches Fiftieth Healthcare Partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem

A child at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem enjoys a one-on-one session with JoyRx Music.

On October 2, JoyRx launched Digital Live services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in New York City. This new team-up marks our fiftieth healthcare partnership and our seventh in the New York area.

JoyRx introduced weekly Digital Live bedside visits to the children in the hospital, allowing them to enjoy one-on-one sessions with JoyRx Music Specialists via iPad.

“We are so excited to welcome NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem to our network and look forward to our weekly sessions,” said Elke Downer, JoyRx Music Manager. “This is such exciting news. Hitting fifty partners is such a milestone and a great inspiration for our team.”

As part of the city-run New York City Health & Hospitals public system, NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem is a safety net hospital that serves low-income and uninsured or underinsured patients.

This new partner comes to us through a referral from The Brooklyn Hospital Center, which began services with us in October 2023.

Our continued growth and expansion nationwide demonstrate the need for services like JoyRx Music. Our JoyRx Music Specialists make connections every day, reaching more children who need a little joy — and helping them to feel better.

We work with Child Life Specialists to share engaging enrichment activities that are trauma-informed and designed specifically for hospitalized children. Through these musical activities and interactions, we help kids feel better through the power of joy.

It makes a big difference for the kids, too. For kids going through treatment, joy isn’t just a necessity, it’s a fundamental right that helps improve their well-being.

“In a hospital setting, I think it is important to advocate for a holistic approach to healthcare and support medical intervention with nonpharmacological strategies,” said Katie, one of our advocates, in a Q&A blog honoring International Arts in Health Month. As a music therapist at Children’s Medical Center, Katie knows firsthand the effect JoyRx can have on kids. “The arts help us connect with our self-expression and creative identity, opening the door to addressing our emotional, physical, and psychological well-being.”

We are so grateful for the chance to expand our number of partnerships and to reach more children nationwide.
