Sharing the Valentine’s Day Love with the Children’s Cancer Association
Last week we celebrated Valentine’s Day for CCA. More than just a single fundraiser, this was a day where an entire community came together across the Pacific Northwest and even around the world. An event that engaged passionate corporate partners, hospitals, board members, and volunteers, we raised an incredible $604,000 to fund our free-of-charge programs in just one day!
Live from the FOX12 Studios
Volunteers from Northwestern Mutual, Randall Children’s Hospital, Dick Hannah Dealerships, Keller Williams, and Elmer’s Restaurant joined many of CCA’s very own board members, staff, and others to answer phones at the live, on-air fundraiser at FOX 12 studios. Fox 12 shared inspirational videos from kids and families who were served by CCA and Entercom helped get the word out by broadcasting fundraising messages across all their local radio stations.
NIKE Goes to Battle for Joy
In true Nike fashion, tapping into their competitive spirit, “Valentine’s Day for CCA Men vs. Women of NIKE Challenge” was a fierce competition. The Men led by Tinker Hatfield and Sandy Bodecker and the Women led by Andrea Corradini and Hilary Krane was a true, worldwide, battle-of-the-sexes fundraising challenge and this year women were victorious in taking back the title.
We Have a Winner!
The dealership that “Believe(s) in Nice,” Dick Hannah, for seven years now has donated a car for the “CCA Keys to Our Heart Car Raffle”. This year’s winner was Robert A. from Beaverton. The winning ticket was drawn by Holly, a CCA-served child.
A Community that Shows Up
Hearts of Joy made another appearance this year and were prominently displayed all over the local area! Customers at participating businesses purchased $1 and $5 paper hearts as a way of publicly showing their personal support.
This year’s participating businesses included: Papa Murphy’s, Flying Pie Pizza, Pietro’s Pizza, Elmer’s, Sunset Lanes, KingPins, Joe’s Burgers, Brow Betty, Pro Caliber, Dr. Bittner Dentistry for Kids, A Flair for Gifts and Home, and Micropump.
Raising for MyMusicRx
Some of Portland’s favorite small business donated a percentage of their Valentine’s Day sales. Led by Stumptown Coffee Roasters who donated 15% of café sales nationwide with other participating businesses generously donating percentages up to 100% of sales.
That’s a Wrap!
The phrase, “it takes a village”, seemed to take on new meaning as inspired listeners and viewers responded generously, helping raise critical funds this Valentine’s Day for our free-of-charge programs that create transformative moments of joy for seriously ill children and their families.
Thank you everyone for showing up in full force!
