United Voices: Raising Awareness for World Cancer Day

Today, on February 4, we at JoyRx, the mission delivery of Children’s Cancer Association, are observing World Cancer Day.

An international movement, World Cancer Day is dedicated to raising awareness, improving education, and encouraging direct action to create a world with access to life-saving cancer treatment and equitable care for everyone.

Each year, communities gather to act as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.

At JoyRx, we continue to emphasize the importance and healing power of Joy, transforming the pediatric healthcare experience for children and teens battling cancer. Through our no-cost, customized programs — JoyRx Music, Mentorship, and Nature — we’re improving emotional health for thousands of children and teens across the country by using Joy as a powerful immune system enhancer.

One such teen is Sabina who was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma at age 12.

“Childhood cancer is a reality. It’s a horrible, horrible thing, but it’s a reality,” said Sabina. Over the next nine months following her diagnosis, she underwent chemotherapy.

Despite the support of her parents and friends, she felt alone. “That’s why JoyRx is so incredible,” she said. “It gave me a chance to be normal, even if I wasn’t.”

With the help of a new friendship with Kelsey, a JoyRx Music Specialist, Sabina was able to feel Joy again. Discover Sabina’s story of resilience and Joy on KATU or by visiting their Stories of JoyRx.

In honor of World Cancer Day and in support of JoyRx, our friends at Audi of Beaverton and Porsche of Beaverton are donating 50 dollars for every new and used car sold in February.

February marks our month-long campaign for Joy with the support of our Joy Makers and wonderful community. Visit our February Campaign webpage to learn more about our Joy Makers and how you can help bring Joy to more kids facing cancer and other serious illnesses.
